Description: Georgetown University was founded in 1789, the same year George Washington became the first U.S. President. Georgetown's hilltop campus commands the same panoramic views of the Potomac River that it did over 200 years ago. Located in the quaint and famous residential village of Georgetown, the 104 acre campus is a self-contained community which combines academic excellence, superb faculty, cultural diversity, and architectural beauty. Just 1.8 miles from the White House, Georgetown's proximity to the Capitol Hill area gives students unprecedented access to government and the "movers and shakers" of American and international policy making. LXR HALL (Click on link to access dorm tour) SUMMER DISCOVERY students live in LXR Hall, an impressive newly refurbished residence hall overlooking Arlington, Virginia, the Potomac River, and the Washington Monument. Rooms are air-conditioned doubles with limited singles and triples, and feature study desks, built-in shelving units and ample drawer and closet space (phone hook-ups are available). The residence hall is coed by floor or wing, with separate bath and shower facilities for men and women. In house facilities include several laundry rooms (lessons available), television/VCR lounges, and SUMMER DISCOVERY offices and lounge. CURRICULUM Enrichment Classes Although Summer Discovery at Georgetown classes are not for college credit, they will be graded and a subsequent transcript will be available from the Georgetown University Registrar's office. This transcript may then be included in the student's profile for college admissions. Classes generally meet Monday-Thursday mornings and early afternoons, for 1½ to 2 hours. Courses are graded on the traditional letter system of A, B, C, D, and F. Transcripts are available from Georgetown Unversity for future use. Students receive a SUMMER DISCOVERY "Certificate of Achievement" at the completion of the program.
