  • Description:

Family owned and operated since 1961, Camp Tawingo offers safe, summer fun in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario. Youthful in spirit yet mature in judgment, our outstanding staff are highly trained, supremely dedicated to our philosophy and principles, and immensely caring of our campers.  We take great pride in our 220-acre site of fields, forests, nature trails, beaches, streams, and a junior mountain; our outstanding facilities; our creative programs; our delicious, nutritious food; and our spacious, clean, well-maintained, and fully-equipped cabins.

Our promise is to instill in our campers an ability to live in harmony with one another and in the out-of-doors.

Our Waterfront is extensive and beautiful, offering recreational and instructional swimming, a fleet of 70 cedar strip canoes, 5 Invitation sailboats, over 20 kayaks, several small rowboats, beach and water volleyball, water basketball, two diving boards, inner tubes, 10 tiki boards, water jousting, and a huge slide!  Our Sports Field is equipped with basketball and tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a soccer field, volleyball and badminton courts, archery, and mini-putt, and equipment for virtually any sport.  Our cabins have full bathrooms with hot and cold running water, permanent bunk beds, and lots of shelf space.  Overnight out-trips, in canoes or by backpack, are adventures every camper enjoys.  In addition to our regular activities, Campers may choose to join the cast of the musical, take part in tournaments at the Library and/or Sports Field and/or in camper talent shows, make art crafts at Jorgi Junction, create woodcrafts at Loon Lodge, learn about Nature at S.W.A.M.P. Lodge, learn about outdoor living skills (e.g., fire building and outdoor cooking) at Crestwood, catch frogs in the Duck Pond, and go fishing off the dock.

While education and personal achievement are important in choosing our staff, we place the greatest emphasis on counsellors who love children, who set a good example in their personal habits, who are practiced in outdoor living, and who have a great sense of humour.  Over 95% are “home-grown”, which means they have grown up at Tawingo and are back with the sole purpose of providing for a new generation of Tawingo campers the same kind of extraordinary experience that they, themselves, enjoyed.  Our staff return rate is close to 80%. Our camper to staff ratio is less than 3:1.  Camp Tawingo counsellors reside in the camper cabins and eat every meal with the campers and help create the outstanding programs and games that their campers enjoy.  Special care and attention are paid to creating an easy transition from home to camp, fostering friendships for life, building confidence, and providing the experience of a lifetime.  The Program staff make certain that activities truly reflect the needs and interests of the campers.  We employ experienced specialists in swimming, canoeing, sailing, out-tripping, campcraft, nature lore, native crafts, athletics, music, and leadership training.

Camp Tawingo is all about fun, adventure, cooperation, friendship, leadership, inspiration, and citizenship.  It is about kids being all they can be.  To this we are committed.
