Camp Focus:

  • Traditional Camps
  • Description:

Our mission is to foster awareness, appreciation and concern for Florida's wildlife and environment through outdoor recreation and education activities in a residential setting. All programs focus on wildlife and habitat issues unique to south Florida and are designed to increase the camper's knowledge and appreciation of wildlife.

Campers learn about ethical, environmental behavior and gain first-hand knowledge of Florida's dwindling wilderness. In addition to our wildlife-based educational programs, all campers participate in swimming, canoeing, fishing, archery and nature hikes. Evening programs include a wildlife presentation, campfires, night hikes, and crafts.

The program focuses on environmentally responsible discovery through interpretive hikes, wildlife observations, field netting, educational games and outdoor living skills.  The voyage of discovery covers a variety of ecological concepts including the importance of predator/prey relationships, endangered species, and habitat protection.

     Jr. Voyagers

    New for 2006!

Jr. Voyagers are introduced to the world of freshwater ecology in the wetlands of south Florida. Campers will be introduced to a variety of freshwater ecology concepts through exciting and challenging activities from the Project WET and Project Wild Aquatic programs. Jr. Voyagers will investigate and learn about the aquatic creatures found in lakes, swamps and marshes of the Everglades and how they interact with each other and their environment. The Jr. Voyagers program will also have special emphasis on fishing, canoeing and water safety in their daily activities.

Jr. Voyagers will also participate in age specific outdoor adventure sessions as part of their daily program which includes archery, fishing, hiking and swimming.

    Rangers (Hunter Safety Program)

A Ranger is an outsdoorsman or woman that takes responsibility in protecting our outdoor heritage. Through the Rangers program campers complete the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissions'  Hunter Safety Program.

Through the Ranger experience, campers will learn about outdoor ethics, wildlife conservation and habitats, wild game and hunting skills. Qualified instructors will also lead classes in firearm safety and provide a safe, controlled environment for campers to be instructed and supervised in the use of shotguns, muzzleloaders, .22 rifles, and archery.  Successful course completion results in campers being awarded Florida's Hunter Safety Certification, patch and identification card.

Rangers will also participate in age specific outdoor adventure sessions  as part of their daily program which includes canoeing, archery, fishing and swimming.

Salt Water dip netting, seining, snorkeling and kayaking are just a few of the program specific activities that take place on a Mariner's adventure.

Voyagers understand that the preservation of our freshwater environments is vital to our future. Through a series of canoe expeditions, scientific experiments, and visits to areas of outstanding natural beauty, Voyagers will further develop and deepen their appreciation of these environments. Instructor led off site programs that have become very popular with the Mariners program can now be experienced through Voyagers along with the age specific on site activities at camp.
