Description: Exciting summer adventure for boys and girls located in southern Nashoba North offers crystal clear water for swimming, sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing. Nashoba North offers four, seven, and eight week sessions to approximately 200 boys and girls between 7 and 15 who hail from many countries around the world. SPORTS Both team and individual sports are offered at camp. Soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, golf, field hockey, lacrosse, floor hockey, water polo, water volleyball and many others are offered on a regular basis. Team sports are typically comprised of single sex teams in specific age categories. Campers travel to nearby camps for friendly competition as well as host their own events. Archery which requires precision and practice and patience is offered to all campers. Hitting a bullseye and earning a badge from the National Archery Association is exciting! Tennis The tennis program is instructional. Children are offered the structure of formal classes with allotted time for practice and competitve play. Our five all weather courts provide an optimal setting for our instructors to teach both beginners and advanced players. Tennis rules, strategies, scoring and practice enhance all levels, making tournaments and round robin events exciting. What a better way to gain your confidence and enjoy the game of tennis than at Nashoba! Golf Intensive golf lessons are taught 4 days a week at camp and 2 afternoons at local golf courses, and driving ranges. There is an additional fee for golf. Proper clothing is required. The fee for golf lessons including greens fees is $600 per session. This includes golf lessons 6 days a week. RIDING A spacious twenty two stall stable houses the prized Nashoba horses and ponies. Nashoba North owns the majority of the camp horses and also leases others from professional stables. We are known for our dependable horses and ponies. The riding program focuses on hunt seat equitation and the balance seat style of riding. Riders may choose to ride either one or two hours a day and have a third hour with a stable management lecture. The program is offered at an additional fee which includes all lessons, stable management lectures, special seminars, horse show entry fees and invitationals. THE OUTDOORS Nashoba North strongly believes in its commitment to our environment and to the teachings of this awareness to its children. Campers typically start their introduction to nature with a "Bounders" activity. In "Bounders" campers learn through close supervision, safety in the wilderness, proper handling of fire, low impact camping, conservation techniques and an appreciation and knowledge of nature. Campers are then screened by the trip department staff as to their hiking ability and are challenged within their skill levels with a chance to advance to higher challenges. (i.e., O=beginner, <>=Expert). Nashoba is fortunate to have highly competent trip instructors on staff. We work in conjunction with the State of For rock climbing enthusiasts, Nashoba has a new 35 foot climbing wall with six varying sides of difficulty. At Nashoba you will learn all the necessary safety techniques in our belay school. Campers can be seen climbing off campgrounds in THE ARTS "Expression" has always been encouraged at Nashoba North whether it be through song, acting, batiking, molding clay, sketching or painting with water colors. The arts at Nashoba North are extremely diverse. Campers may choose to focus in a specific class for the week or they may prefer to try only a few different classes at once. Projects are carefully selected to enable a camper to achieve completion within the six day week. Here you'll find a pottery studio complete with electric and kick wheels, a woodshop where campers create with soft native pine and a photography studio suited for developing black and white 35mm film. There is a silkscreening studio where campers create colorful t-shirts, a dance studio where staff teaches many styles of dance, and a large general arts and crafts building for other fun projects. Some other exciting classes include: basket making, tie-dying, puppetry, drawing, paper maché, and candle making and much more! The plays produced on our beautiful indoor and outdoor lighted stages generate enthusiasm and excitement throughout camp. Theater classes include improvisational, mime, stage makeup, lighting, and more! One Act plays are performed once each week and one large musical is performed every four week session. Muscial selections for our 1999 season were Annie and Once Upon A Mattress. Dances are choreographed by Nashoba staff persons for each production. Dance classes may include ballet, tap, modern dance, jazz and aerobics. Campers who play an instrument are encouraged to bring it to camp. | ||
