Sail to some of the most beautiful places on the Great Lakes. Explore remote, uninhabited islands. Push yourself to achieve more than you ever thought possible.

Windward Bound is a live-aboard sailing expedition for young people ages 14-18. You will learn how to navigate, steer, and handle the sails on the schooner Appledore V while sailing with our professional crew and a small group of 6-8 crew trainees. Choose from 9 overnight voyages, 5 – 12 days each, commencing June 12th and continuing through the summer. Sail on a Windward Bound voyage and you will experience a world others only dream of.

Onboard the ship each trainee is assigned to a bunk and a watch for the voyage. While on watch the trainees will learn every aspect of running the ship, from navigation to meal preparation. Most nights the ship will anchor in a secluded cove or occasionaly visit a small port town. Voyage highlights include trips ashore in the ship's tenders, visits to rarely explored islands for hiking and campfires, and a possible all-night sail. In 2006 a number of voyages will include sailing in company with the Tall Ships fleet. Book early, space is very limited.

The Appledore V is licenced by the U.S. Coast Guard and is crewed by a licenced captain and mate, and two youth crew. Windward Bound is licenced by the sate of Michigan as a youth travel camp.
