Description: The University of Connecticut Jazz Camp provides aspiring young musicians with the opportunity to hone their instrumental jazz skills by studying closely with professional jazz artists and respected educators within the beautiful music department facilities on the UConn campus. Daily activities will include combo rehearsals, master classes and concerts by internationally recognized jazz instrumentalists, instruction in theory, improvisation & jazz history and performance opportunities. The camp is open to high school students with some jazz band experience, who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass or drum set. Each week concludes with evening concerts for family and friends in UConn’s von der Mehden Recital Hall. String Players “Boot Camp” is a chance for the budding string player to kick their playing up a few notches. We offer the time, the methods, the inspiration and the place to really prepare students for the next level. Daily practice sessions are supervised by master teachers, as well as private lessons and coaching. Classes in chamber music and practical musicianship are integrated into the learning environment while emphasizing the joy of accomplishment and personal achievement. Special Guest Artists and performances will round out each week. Theater Workshop: The UConn Department of Dramatic Arts has developed one of the finest university-based actor-training programs in the country. Our teachers have worked, and continue to work, as actors, directors, and performance coaches for important regional repertory theatres, on and off-Broadway productions, television programs, and major motion pictures. Students in this camp will receive intensive training in acting, movement, and voice. There will be a special emphasis on physical theatre – experiences like masking and clowning enable young actors to go beyond interpretation to the actual creation of theatre. A “work in progress” show is presented in the afternoon of the last day of camp – family and friends are invited! |
